Pakistan Has the Least Amount Required For Spotify Premium Access in the South Asian Region

The globally leading music streaming application Spotify has recently launched in the South East Asian region, including countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, which is two years after Spotify was initially launched in India. The news has been announced on Monday by Spotify as they have further expanded their music streaming service but have only left Myanmar in the region.

The expansion by Spotify has allowed using their services in multiple small nations throughout the world, including Georgia, Brunei, Gabon, Gambia, and Botswana. Meanwhile, other large countries with numerous possible clienteles have also been allowed to access features provided by Spotify, like Kenya and Nigeria.

The rumors regarding launching Spotify in Pakistan by expanding their range first appeared online in the month of November last year after they created a verified page on Instagram. This newly launched music streaming service is available to access for free through Android and iOS applications. The users have the option to upgrade their account to Spotify Premium that has ad-free access, along with multiple other features like the ability to download the music for offline listening and skip unlimited songs.

Local languages and prices

The prices for Spotify in Pakistan for a premium account start at PKR 299 per month ($1.9), while the premium family subscription package is for PKR 479 per month ($3), which would be accessible for six members of the family residing in the same house. Another family subscription offer by Spotify in Pakistan is for PKR 390 ($2.45) for 2 individuals residing at the same address. The cheapest subscription offer currently being provided by Spotify in Pakistan is for university students at PKR 149 (95 cents) per month.

As compared to other South Asian countries, Pakistan has the minimum amount required to access the Spotify Premium account. In comparison, India and Bangladesh have slightly higher rates to obtain access to a premium account in the music streaming application.

For the payment method, Visa and MasterCard are accepted by Spotify in Pakistan, but other payment methods are also being offered by the music streaming service to facilitate their users. Spotify users are also able to pay their subscription charges in Pakistan through Zong and Telenor mobile operators by using their mobile credit.

India is the only country in this region where Spotify has provided their users to have unlimited skips when used on a mobile device. Meanwhile, in other countries, Spotify enforces the users that are using for free to shuffle music tracks in albums, with no choice provided to the user on what tracks would be played initially, and the only limited number of tracks can be skipped.

India has several music streaming applications which are in competition with Spotify, due to which the decision to add some additional features in the free version has been provided.

In a statement, Spotify stated that the catalog available in their service includes more than 70 million music tracks, both of local and international music. The application of Spotify in Pakistan has already featured playlists made for the country, which will be updated on a regular basis, and includes Hot Hits Pakistan, Pakistan Indie 101, Load shedding Longing, Pakistani Rock Hits, Pakistani Drama OSTs, and more.
