Multiple verified and high-profile Twitter accounts hacked
According to Twitter, this was a coordinated attack on all the employees working for their company that has access to classified internal tools and systems. It is confirmed by twitter that the attack on numerous high profile verified accounts by the hackers was to take total control over the accounts and post a tweet on their behalf.
The tweet that was sent from every hacked account says to send any amount of money in the form of Bitcoins to the following address, after which the sender would be able to receive twice the amount of cash sent.
While Twitter was trying to block and limit access to the internal system and tools for the hackers into the verified accounts of high-level individuals, multiple significant steps were taken by the company but still were not able to stop getting the twitter accounts hacked. The chief executive of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, feels terrible for the mishap that happened today. To help the tough situation at the Twitter headquarters, the United Kingdom’s National Cyber Security Centre has sent its officers to help the situation. In any other circumstances, the breach that leads towards getting high-level twitter accounts hacked could have been quite worse.
The attack regarding multiple twitter accounts hacked is a direct attack on the company rather than its users across the world. For which the company urges every individual using the social networking service to take caution regarding any request that requires sensitive, private, and personal information or money.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, using verified twitter accounts to gain money is a very disturbing situation created by hackers. To prevent further loss from the same situation in the future, twitter advises its users to report any incident that uses de-escalatory language to communicate or tries to gain critical information from the public.
Twitter’s emergency response against multiple accounts getting hacked
To counter a surprising attack that leads towards getting twitter accounts hacked, Twitter stopped posting any sort of tweets for all verified accounts, along with the denial of all password resetting requests and several other functions of private accounts. By the time of 20:30 EDT, all verified accounts were able to tweet as the issue has been resolved completely. To prevent this issue altogether, twitter is working for a permanent fix.
According to the co-founder of CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company working alongside twitter, this recent attack on Twitter appears to be the worst kind of coordinated attack on a major social networking platform.
As soon as the tweets posted from the twitter accounts hacked were posted, that says to send money by which they could get the double amount to send with them. But the offer was valid for only thirty minutes after it was posted. The first account that posted this type of tweet was Elon Musk, later followed by other verified accounts. As soon as the first such tweet was deleted from the accounts, other tweets like the first one were consecutively posted.
To counter this issue, twitter locked down all accounts to prevent further disturbance and breach of private information on their social networking sites. This recent attack of twitter accounts hacked appears to be a larger conspiracy than just twitter.
