Astronomy Student Discovered 17 New Planets
Will science be able to solve the increasing population issue we are facing?
Astronomers have been searching for places around the universe that might present some signs of life, and that search has not been that fruitful so far. The certain balls of gas found before either were too harsh, environmentally to live in or were only livable for microorganisms. At the University of British Columbia, an astronomy student discovered 17 new planets while combing through the data of NASA’s Kepler mission.
Out of these new planets, there is one which has the potential to inhabit life, having the size which is around the size of our earth and has liquid water.
Background of Student Discovered 17 New Planets
Over the four years that NASA’s Kepler mission went on, it provided lots and lots of information regarding several planets in the habitable zone of the universe, but at that time, the data provided no information that could help us in finding any inhabitable planet which has become somewhat a need due to the increasing number of population which has no way of stopping right now. The major reason for over population that has become a huge problem and load for the ear is early marriages and many numbers of children of just one family.
There should be a global law around the number of children conceived and born per family to reduce the risk of running out of resources of this earth. After going through the Kepler mission data after a few years when it was shut down, a university student discovered 17 new planets that can be used for humans to live from the same data that was once of no use.
About the new planet:
The new findings from student discovered 17 new planets, one of the planets officially called KIC-7340288 b is now found to be habitable for the people of the earth without any life-threatening hazards as it has liquid water as one of the resources. This planet is one and a half the size of the earth. Is it small enough that it was fist considered to be rocky, as planets this small are usually not made out of gas as the usual big sized planets are? Out of these planets discovered, the largest one is eight times the size of the earth.
One of the good things about this planet is that it is in the inhabitable zone of the universe and a possibility for the human race to be able to survive there without any hindrance.
Is this planet of use to us? :
NASA intern and astronomy student discovered 17 new planets, which would play a major role in the upcoming generation’s living conditions. The only drawback to this discovery is that the new world that has been found is around a thousand light-years away so that traveling will be a major issue. Out of the other 16 planets found along with the inhabitable planet, the smallest one of the planets found in NASA’s Kepler mission data is only two thirds the size of the earth.
The student discovered 17 new planets, including the rocky planet that has the tendency for life to survive, is 142 and a half days long and orbits about 41 million miles away from its parent planet.
Second discovery by the same student:
This is not the first discovery in the astronomy department of the University of British Columbia as she has previously discovered four planets during her undergraduate years, and now that same student discovered 17 new planets from the already taken and somewhat discarded data from NASA and used it to our advantage.
Even though the planet is close to the sun with the distance the same as mercury from the sun in our solar system, the star gets very little light due to the smaller size of the planet. Other than the new planets, several other previously balls of gasses were also observed that were already recorded by the Kepler satellite.
